Antoine Claes

Antoine Claes | Bridge No. 2 | Oil on canvas | 48

Antoine Claes has had a passion for photography since his college days. Claes has used this discipline as reference in his painting.
The sources of inspiration for his work result from the urban universe, specifically, technology and architecture. His painting is based on principles like verticality, the geometrical organization and the treatment of light. Technically, he uses the juxtapositions, the dissolves, the slides and the footings of a palette knife. His process is of an aesthetic nature and consists in letting the subject matter and the light speak rather than seeking to justify it in another way. He exploits the topic of the enlightened window of the interior; they are generally buildings of offices. The evocation of the light in his works carries the emotion; it supports contemplation and wakes up imagination.
