ARTIST STATEMENT

It's all about dynamism. Two elements never touching but affecting one another simply by existing in a space together.

Thesis and antithesis are staples in an ever-changing world. If I can see both extremes then I can get a good idea of the middle. I don't ignore the subtleties because they keep the story interesting, but the extremes make me pay attention in the first place.

If you look at a light then look away, what was once bright becomes a dark spot in your vision. One opposite begets another. Staring too long into the light could mean a loss of vision altogether. The reverse is also true. I find balance by examining the light and dark side of things. There is something inherently attractive and informative in the dissonance created when two extremes are paired, visually and thematically. I paint to create and illustrate that dissonance.
