ARTIST STATEMENT
Everyone has a story to tell. The world won’t know most of our stories, but with celebrities everyone knows. I decided to paint portraits of famous musicians on antique books because the musicians themselves had made a significant impact on the past and are continually making history. Included in each picture is a number that has something significant to do with the person featured. Numerology is any of many systems, traditions or beliefs in a mystical or esoteric relationship between numbers and physical objects or living things. Numbers are a part of everything, they’re in the world around us, they’re in the stars, and they’re represented in every aspect of life, on purpose or by chance
The numbers I chose for each celebrity is explained on the inside cover of the book, letting you know that particular story and part of their life.I chose musicans because music and mathematics have always had a close relationship. Since Pythagoras, it has been known that tonal harmony is closely related to the numerical relation of the frequencies.
The books range in age from 60 to 90 years old and each book has its own past. Many people have passed that book along through the years and even today books are our closet link to the past.
